Launch Event

Sunday, 11 April 2021

The Unley Support Group for the “Uluru Statement From the Heart” was launched on the 11th of April 2021 with 75 persons in attendance. First Nations’ elder Nolan Hunter was sent from the Statement’s leadership team to provide the background to the Statement which was agreed to at a historic meeting held at Uluru on 26th of May 2017 of 250 First Nations representatives from all around the nation.

The meeting included a Welcome to Country by Kaurna and Narungga Elder Uncle Frank Wanganeen, a presentation by Nolan Hunter, and a Q&A panel featuring Nolan Hunter, Uncle Frank Wanganeen, Tarlee Leondaris (Uniting Church Covenanting and International Mission Officer), and Mike Brown (Blackwood Reconciliation Group).

This occasion led to the ongoing Unley Support Group which meets monthly to be better informed and to plan events to awaken and inform the people of Unley about this truly historic call to the nation to recognise and structurally enable First Nations peoples to have a Voice which can advise the Governments of the day on issues pertaining to First Nations people.
